About Me

I'm a simple Scottish girl with an unusual name and a strange obsession for nail polish! My aim is to capture what the eye sees, with a camera! Too much nail polish and never enough time. I have also started wildlife photography, which I enjoy very much. Welcome to my little world :-)

Accessorize Boho Nail Wardrobe Silver Sparkle on Purple Passion

After wearing Purple Passion for a couple of days, I fancied a glittery top on it. So I tried this one.
From the bottle I had expected it to look good on!
Both inside with flash.

It's really very hard to see it! It was like that in real life, but easier to see when it was dark. If you zoom in on the bottom picture and zoom to the pinkie, you can just about make out the effect.

I only used 1 coat for this. It was easy to apply and quick drying. But very subtle. I think if I use it next time, I'll have to try 2 coats.

A 6 out of 10.

Avon Purple Passion

When I had opened my Avon package from eBay, this is the one that was top of the list for wearing first!
I'd describe it as purple with a subtle blue shimmer.

All inside with flash.

It's very shiny and pretty. I really like the colour. It was fairly easy to apply and the lid was easy enough to hold. 1 coat was very streaky but 2 coats (all above pictures) gave a good finish. Took ages to dry though. Lasted well.

A 7 out of 10. Would definitely wear this one again, a winner.

2 Helmers and counting........

If you've ever wondered what the red surface I take my pictures on is, then keep reading..... Or did you guess, well done!

It's none other than Ikea's Helmer! What a wonderful filing cabinet it is. Ideal for storing all your nail polish and bits & bobs. I used to have one, then needed another and I'm now wondering how long it will be before I need a 3rd!

The rack on top (and red tray to the side) hold my glittery tops, nail effects (crackles, shatters etc.), top coats, matte coats and base coat.

The only nail polishes (that I own) that don't fit are: Bourjois 1 Seconde Nail Polish shade 13 & 14. They are easy to spot in the picture!

Accessorize Boho Nail Wardrobe Barbie Pink

This is the first colour I tried from the set.
I had described this as being Barbie Pink in a previous post, as the polishes didn't have names or codes. It's very girlie.

Indoors with flash.

Very shiny!
And without flash.
This was a nice enough colour and it was easy to use. Nice lid making it easy to hold and it was no problem to apply. BUT the formula wasn't great, it was thin and watery and took a while to dry. Looked streaky with 2 coats, so all above are 3 coats (not like me eh). AND it chipped easily. I was having my breakfast and noticed it had chipped (boo). I don't like chips.

If you are wearing it as a one off then it's good. I do think the box is worth buying, if you can pick it up cheap, as you get 9 polishes and some look fantastic. All in all it gets a 5 out of 10. The box can be easily found on eBay.

Avon Purchases

And finally in the trio of posts tonight, my Avon Nail Polish purchases. Again from eBay and cost under £4. As can be seen from the following pictures some are used and some are new!
L-R: Golden Dream, Viva Pink, Blue Flare, Midnight Plum and Coral Beat

L-R: Mystic, Deluxe, Luscious Lemon (scented) and Purple Passion

I'm not sure how easy these are to pick up, especially the older ones. I'm sure they are floating about eBay at times, after all that's where I picked them up!

Can a girl have too many polishes?

Marks & Spencer Purchases

Also picked up these 4 bottles from eBay for under £3! Considering each bottle costs £3 in M&S, that's not bad for 4 brand new bottles!
From L-R we have: Wine, Aubergine, Blackberry and Sorbet

These are available from most bigger Marks & Spencer stores. Not sure if Wine is discontinued though because I don't recall seeing it recently.

Accessorize Purchases

Got the Boho Nail Wardrobe from eBay for under £9 last week. I do like the colours. All the bottles are 5ml.
There was no indication of the names of the polishes, so I made up names!
From L-R: Silver Sparkle, Glittery Purple, Glittery Dark Blue, Barbie Pink and Pale Pink

From L-R: Black, Light Bluey/Grey, Blood Red and Raspberry
I did wonder if the glittery blue was Electric Blue, but I think it's too dark.

If anyone knows what the names are, could you let me know please.

Rimmel 500 Disco Ball

I recently bought this one from Superdrug in a 2 for £4.99 deal old post link. I do like glittery tops on my nails (sure I've mentioned that before!) and when this one caught my eye, I just had to have it. On initial inspection it reminded me of NYC's Starry Silver Glitter (which I think they've changed), but how wrong was I?

First is with flash and second is without (sorry it's so blurry still getting used to the macro setting on my camera).

So decided to try it on Barry M Racing Green from the previous post.

Inside with flash.
Quite sparkly as we can see.

Outside natural light.

When it was finally on, I noticed the difference. It's not got as much blue as the NYC polish! All pictures are with 1 coat. Rimmel lids are great to hold and make it easy to paint the nails and the brush applies well too. It gave a nice finish and dried quickly. It was also shiny & sparkly and didn't feel too grainy like some glittery ones do (even on one coat).

Good glitter polish. All in all I'd give it 8 out of 10.

Superdrug sell it normally for £2.99 and some of the Tesco stores, Boots and online too at various places. Easy to find at the moment.

Barry M Racing Green NP299

Oh how I'm a fan of the Barry M polishes. And let me tell you, this one doesn't let down. As the name suggests it's green. In fact, very close (if not), British Racing Green! And what a lovely shade of green that is, just ask Sir Stirling Moss!
Inside with flash.

Just how good does it look in natural light?

What a winner! I love this colour, but you may not. All pictures are my usual 2 coats. Again, I have nothing but good words to say about the Barry M lids, they are so easy to hold and make painting the nail VERY EASY. Application was good, dried quickly and what a good finish I got! It also lasted well for a few days and I was doing some paperwork and it didn't scuff.

If you are a fan of dark green then it's a purchase you won't regret. Costs £2.99 from the official site (excluding P&P) and that's where I got it from... older post link! . Superdrug also sell it for £2.99 but the ones I've looked in don't seem to have it, so try in the bigger stores.

A definite 10 out of 10 for me. I love everything about this nail polish.

Avon Romance (older version)

I got a few Avon Varnishes from a colleague fairly recently, they were the older style ones that she hadn't used in years. I decided to try Romance as it seems really popular.
I'd describe it as a lilacy/pearly/silvery colour. I wouldn't say it was matte, but it did look duller on my nails compared to other colours.

Inside with flash.

And inside without flash.

Wasn't so keen on this colour. The older style lid is hard to hold and makes it difficult to paint the nail. Though it did give a good finish and went on the nail nicely. Above are with 2 coats. I'm not sure if I'd wear this one again. Just not my colour but it's good quality for its age! Would give it a 7 out of 10.

I got it free but you can pick this version up on eBay and the more recent version on Amazon for £1.50 and I think Avon are actually selling their varnishes reduced to £3.50 at the moment.

Asda George 71 Boom

Yet again another Asda Nail Varnish! This time we have a nice royal blue.
This was unfortunately quite gloopy and I found it quite hard to apply as it was very thick. I must have been unlucky and picked up a dud.

Certainly looked good on. I do like the colour but wish it hadn't been so gloopy. The above are indoors with the flash. It has a good finish to it and dried fairly quickly, not as quickly as some of the other George ones though. I think I'll try some remover to thin it down a little because I do intend wearing it again.

£1 from Asda. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 gloopy or not, it's a nice blue.

*EXTRA*
With Deborah Lippmann's Boom Boom Pow on top (just for fun!)

MeMeMe 33 Champagne

This is one of the older MeMeMe ones that I picked up from Poundland a few months back.
I would say it's a gold for sure, but not an over-the-top gold and quite subtle.

Inside with flash.

And without flash.

It certainly is a nice colour.

Outdoors with no flash (in Asda's carpark of all places).

These 3 were taken after a few days of wear and as can been seen, the index finger has a slight scuff on it. Not sure how that came about!

This is a good varnish. It applied well and I do like the brush in the older MeMeMes. It also dried quickly and gave a good finish after 2 coats. It also lasted well too. So thumbs up for this one! 8 out of 10.

If you can't find it in your local Poundland then it's available to buy on eBay a lot of the time.

Accessorize 38 Aztec

Oh my goodness golly gosh. I'm in love! This is a brilliant colour.
At first glance it looks purple with a hint of gold in it. BUT no! It's iridescent and a nail varnish of many talents! Purple, gold, bronze and green were among the colours I caught.

Inside with flash.

Indoors without flash.
The pictures don't really do it justice.

Outside in the sunshine.

I think between the pictures you can see all the different colours. But they really don't portray just how fantastic this nail varnish really is!

I love it, I love it, I love it. I'd have to say that my favourite types of nail varnishes are the iridescent ones.

It dried quickly, application was good and the finish was good. The only down side was the lid, I found it a wee bit tricky at first to hold.

£4 from Superdrug. And worth every penny. 9 out of 10 as the lid was tricky to hold. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.
